Summary
NostalgicPod does not collect, store, or share any personal data about you. Everything the app does happens on your device. There are no analytics, no tracking, no accounts, no servers we operate that receive your data.
This document describes exactly what the app accesses on your device and why.
What the app accesses
Storage / Files (with your explicit permission)
When you grant access via Android's Storage Access Framework, the app reads audio files from the folders you choose (typically Music/NostalgicPod Library/). This permission is granted by you through the system folder picker; it is not requested implicitly.
The app reads:
- Audio file contents and embedded metadata (title, artist, album, cover art) for the songs you add.
- File modification dates and sizes to detect changes between scans.
The app writes:
- Audio files you import via "Add Songs to Library" or share intents (saved into
Music/NostalgicPod Library/). - An internal database (on-device only) holding the library index, play counts, ratings, and other listening-state.
Network
NostalgicPod uses the network for three purposes, all initiated by your actions:
- Cover art lookup: searches Apple's public iTunes Search API for missing album art when you import songs or run "Find missing covers". No personal information is sent — only the album/artist names embedded in your file metadata are used as search terms.
- Lyrics lookup: queries LRCLIB (a free, anonymous lyrics service) when you enable lyrics. Same scope — only song title/artist/album are sent.
- Internet Radio: streams audio from public radio stations listed by Radio Browser when you tune one. No account is created; the streams are public URLs.
The app does not maintain any server we operate. The third-party services above receive only the search/stream requests required to fulfill your action.
Notifications
The app requests notification permission to display playback controls on the lock screen and in the notification shade (standard behavior for music apps). No notifications are sent for marketing or any other purpose.
Bluetooth & Audio Hardware
The app sends audio output to whatever device you have selected in your system audio settings (built-in speaker, headphones, Bluetooth headphones, etc.). It does not pair, configure, or read information from your audio devices.
What the app does not do
- No personal accounts, no sign-up, no email collection.
- No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting to third parties.
- No advertising, no ad SDKs.
- No location access.
- No contacts, calendar, camera, or microphone access.
- No background uploads of your library or listening history.
- No sale of any data to anyone, ever.
Data retention
Anything the app stores stays on your device. Uninstalling NostalgicPod removes the on-device database. Audio files you saved into Music/NostalgicPod Library/ remain on your device because they live in user-owned storage; you can delete them through any file manager.
Children
The app does not knowingly collect any data, so it does not knowingly collect data from children. The app is rated for general audiences.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will appear at the same URL with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.
